Lyric’s Hot list for January 2013: Entering the Teens Has Never Been So Much Fun!
January 3, 2013Lyric Marketing HOT List for February: A whole lotta art, food and LOVE!
February 1, 2013Are You Stuck in a Spiral?
You have been given one magical wish – If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be? A very good question and a fun exercise and there are, of course, many answer to the question, such as:
• Make it so people would actually love other people. That would end all heartbreak, crime, war, lawsuits, abuse, everything. It’s a lack of love that causes all the pain in the first place!
• Stop War all over the world
• Stop abuse, neglect and torture
• Remove politics from the world. Every problem would be solved INSTANTLY
• NO MORE HUNGER
All good answers, but unfortunately, most are nothing more than magical wishes – beyond our control, or ability to really make happen. Who wouldn’t change world hunger if they could, or stop all wars? If we had that one wish from the Jeanie in the bottle, we would all make good use of it! But there is no Jeanie in the bottle, at least not in my house.
Now if you did have just one thing you could change, and possessed the ability to make it happen, the talent, the knowledge, the means, what would that be? And what kind of long term effect would it have on your life? Did you know that CHANGING ONE THING is all that is necessary to bring real change in your life? CHANGING ONE THING can reinvent your own reality and thus the reality of those around you. No Jeanie in the bottle necessary!
Very often we feel that our marketing, our business, our personal lives, are stuck in a spiral going no where but down – headed towards disaster maybe, or perhaps just dropping off from the momentum we once had. Had can you put the breaks on a downward spiral? Can you create a change in the momentum to start heading upward toward success? I think so. Just CHANGE ONE THING.
Ok, so how? Is there a formula or strategy that successful and powerful people use to make things happen? The answer of course is yes. There are numerous “formulas” (and you know I hate formulas, but this is an essential one!) that you can use to set and achieve your goals for the rest of your life – and all have a few common denominators. From my experience, I know that successful people are masters of their time and their actions, their mind and their decisions. So to harness all that energy that’s inside of you and to utilize your experience and what you are great at, a good strategy will include some of these basics:
1 – Decide What You Want
What do you want? What is your goal? What gets you out of bed in the mornings? What do you LOVE!? Put a definition on what that is and become a “meaningful specific” rather than a “wandering generality.” Sometimes it is just to CHANGE ONE THING!
2 – Write It Down
Second, write it down, clearly and in detail. Say it outloud, speak it out to the Universe. Print it and post it on your refrigerator or bathroom mirror. Now it is more than a wish. Now it has energy behind it!
3 – Set a Deadline
Third, set a deadline for your goal. A deadline acts as a “forcing system” in your subconscious mind. It motivates you to do the things necessary to make your goal come true. If it is a big enough goal, set sub-deadlines as well. Don’t leave this to chance.
4 – Make a List
Fourth, make a list of everything that you can think of that you are going to have to do to achieve your goal. When you think of new tasks and activities, write them on your list until your list is complete.
5 – Create a Strategic Plan
Fifth, organize your list into a strategic plan with timelines that you can easily put into motion. Decide what you will have to do first and what you will have to do second. Decide what is more important and what is less important. And then write out your plan on paper or put it in a spreadsheet – clearly labeling the required actions. Liken this to the same way you would develop a blueprint to build your dream house. Include a schedule in your strategy and on your spreadsheet that helps you accomplish the things on your list. Something fun to do would be to write out your strategic plan in the form of a hypothetical outcome statement. Get creative and dream of the end goal then work backwards to create the necessary steps to get there.
6 – Take Action
The sixth step is for you to take action on your plan. Do something. Do anything. Get busy and start with CHANGING ONE THING! You might find that to complete your strategy, you may need the help of a professional. Contact a marketing specialist to help you create and implement a strategic plan for your marketing, this will save you time and money, freeing you up to go after the business!
Do Something Every Day – Do something every single day that moves you in the direction of your most important goal at the moment. Develop the discipline of doing something 365 days each year that is moving you forward. You will be astonished at how much you accomplish when you utilize this formula in your life every single day. You will be amazed how how easily you can stop a spiral from spining downward and out of control by CHANGING ONE THING.
Love and Peace,
Sandy
